The backbone of a Boy Scout’s camping experience, Summer Camp provides a week-long opportunity to sharpen their camping and wilderness skills while enjoying the beauty of the outdoors at Gus Blass Scout Reservation. Scouts and their patrols get to show off those skills and others at the District Camporee, a weekend of contests, camping and conviviality held locally within the scout’s home district. And finally, every 18 months the big event, the Council Camporee, a theme-driven extravaganza of programs, demonstrations, special events and unique entertainment.

Camp Rockefeller is celebrating 40 summers of camp this summer. For anyone who has been around Camp Rockefeller and Gus Blass Scout Reservation, formerly Camp Nile Montgomery and Cove Creek Scout Reservation, then you know that there has been several different anniversaries celebrated over the years. In 1977, the camp celebrated the ‘charter summer’ as they called it. It was the first full summer camp held solely at Cove Creek Scout Reservation. Camp Rockefeller is celebrating 40 years since our charter summer this summer. This summer is going to be one of the best summers ever. The staff has so much awesome stuff plan. You don’t want to miss it.
Boy Scout Camping Events
Boy Scouts from units across their district compete in these Council-sponsored weekends of fun and fellowship. Inter-patrol and inter-personal competitions determine the most creative, most knowledgeable and hardest-working Boy Scouts present, while presentations and demonstrations introduce the boys into ever-wider fields of interest for them to learn and master.
Is generally held at Gus Blass Scout Reservation every 18 months, the Council Camporee is a show of shows based on a special theme, such as Scouting Through The Years, the theme of the 2001 Council Camporee. Each Unit has its own part to play in the production, and gives the boys a chance to learn and experience a wide range of presentations and exhibitions. Every young man stretches himself to new levels of skill and dedication in order to provide a scouting experience that is not to be missed.
