Cub Wars Welcome Letter

Thank you for registering for the upcoming Cub Wars Cub Scout Adventure Weekend May 4th – 6th at Camp Rockefeller in Damascus, AR.  We have a fun-filled event planned that everyone should enjoy.  I wanted to pass along some information so you can be prepared.  The weather forecast for the weekend is looking like fantastic! It may still get cool at night and early morning.

If you decide to wait until Saturday to come up, plan to arrive around 7-8am.  This will allow you time to get checked in before the fun starts at 9am.

From Conway (I-40, exit 125), head North on Hwy 65 for 19.4 miles.  Turn left on AR-124 W and go .9 miles.  Turn right on Spires Rd and travel .5 miles.  Turn right on Hall-Hendren Ln for 1.8 miles.  Turn left on Scout Drive for .4 miles.

For the safety of our Scouts and attendees, please observe the posted speed limits while on camp property.

If you are checking in Friday evening, be sure to eat dinner before arriving at camp.  We may be offering some snacks later that night but your first meal will not be until Sat morning.  Upon arrival, our welcoming team will inform you of your campsite assignment.  We will carry your gear to the entrance of your assigned campsite.  Please make sure your gear is marked with your name and Pack number.  Packing your belongings into plastic tubs, bags, packs, etc. will make it easier for you to manage getting them to your tent or camping area. There are a few items that we recommend you bring since much of your time will be spent outdoors. Those include good walking shoes, flashlight, bug spray, sunscreen, hat, water bottle, sleeping bag/bedding/pillow to be comfortable at night, towel, and shower kit.  Additional suggestions can be found in the attached parent’s guide.

Medical Forms

To ensure the health and well-being of our participants, a BSA Health and Medical form is required for all event participants, youth and adults.  This event only requires Parts A and B to be completed.  A doctor’s assessment is not required to complete Parts A and B.  The BSA Health and Medical form can be found at Medical forms should be submitted when checking in and may be picked up during your departure from the Camp Medic.  All medical forms not picked up will be shredded and destroyed.

 Dining Schedule

Due to the overwhelming response at this event, we will not be able to feed everyone at the same time.  During the check-in process, you will be assigned to a dining shift for Saturday night dinner.  Please adhere to the times for your assigned shift during this time.

Campfires are welcome in designated campfire rings. Please do not bring firewood. There is plenty of wood lying around.  Fireworks and firearms are not allowed on camp property at any time.  Heaters and open flames are not allowed in any tent at any time.

The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission will be onsite Saturday teaching youth how to cast, bait hooks, tie hooks, and remove fish.  They will provide the equipment and bait needed during that day.  If you want to fish when they will not be onsite, you will need to bring your own fishing gear.  We do ask that you practice catch and release on Lake Butler.  Anyone over the age of 15 will be required to have an Arkansas fishing license.

Smoking Policy

Camp Rockefeller is a smoke-free environment.  Smoking, including vaping and e-cigarettes, is not allowed on the property.

Please review the attached Cub Family Parent’s Guide for additional information.  If there is something you need while in camp, be sure to let a staff member know and we will do what we can to assist.

Looking forward to a great weekend!
